Kedarnath temple history:
The origins
of the Kedarnath temple date back to ancient times, with its construction
believed to have been initiated by Adi Shankaracharya, a prominent Hindu
philosopher and theologian, in the 8th century. He is credited with founding
several pilgrimage sites across India and is considered a driving force in the
promotion of Hinduism. The temple is part of the Char Dham Yatra, a pilgrimage
circuit that also includes Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri.
The Pandavas
finally caught up with him in today's Kedarnath, where the temple now stands.
Lord Shiva sank into the ground leaving behind only his hump. This hump is
worshiped as an idol in the temple, while other parts of Lord Shiva's body are
worshiped at four other places, forming the Panch Kedar.
