The langar at Golden Temple is among the largest and most organized community kitchens in the world, serving thousands of people every day. It operates 24 hours a day and offers simple but delicious food to anyone willing to partake.

Amrit Sarovar has immense spiritual significance for Sikhs. The third Sikh Guru, Guru Amar Das Ji, is believed to have discovered the site and made it a sacred pond in the early 16th century. •Visitors have to remove their shoes and cover their heads as a sign of respect.

•Consumption of tobacco, cigarettes and alcohol is strictly prohibited in the Golden Temple complex.

•Revealing clothing is not allowed and it is advisable to cover your shoulders and legs.

•Only Sikh men can wear turban in the sanctum (Darbar Sahib). Other head coverings such as caps or hats are not permitted in this area.

• Taking photos or videos inside the temple is strictly prohibited. However, visitors are allowed to capture the beauty of the temple complex from the outside.
